The GREAT LIE in this broken and fractured universe, when the enemy whispers into our ears is that God cannot be trusted and that we have to ultimately take care of ourselves. That is the LIE that Eve believed in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:1 ~ Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD GOD had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
“Did God really say”?
How often do we hear those words that whisper ever so softly into our soul with every intention to create doubt?
The serpent, Satan himself and one well equipped used his deceptive nature and convinced Eve that because God had a different plan, an ulterior motive ~ she began to doubt and didn’t trust what God said. By doubting and not trusting, she did what she thought was best for herself. She took control of her life, so did Adam. She and Adam turned from dependence on God for their very source of life to independence that resulted in not only physical death, but also an emotional fracture ~ spiritual separation. Their decision turned out to be a complete disaster with severe consequences ~ not only for them, but for all humanity.
It always backfires when we take God out of the equation and do what we think is right in our own eyes.
Proverbs 14:12 ~ There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
What happened to Adam and Eve is the same with us. In the present day in making decisions and in every circumstance, the enemy is still at work weaving and whispering the same GREAT LIE. Our worst moments result from taking for ourselves that which Father God has not given us.
Therefore, the questions are …
What am I taking, wanting, desiring, longing, coveting or hungering for that is not of God or part of his plan for my good?
What LIE is being whispered?
What LIE am I listening to?”
What LIE am I believing?
God did not plant the tree of knowledge in the Garden to destroy us, but allow us the freedom that would create a relationship with him that is meaningful and full of joy. The gift of restoration is realizing that when we have trusted in ourselves rather than God ~ we find out just how misguided we really were ~ then turn and trust Him with all our heart, mind, body and soul.
God had a back up plan in the midst of the GREAT LIE way before what Adam and Eve chose in the Garden ~ just as He has a way of escape for us in the middle of a raging LIE ~ CHRIST IN US, our HOPE of GLORY!
