Breastplate

His breastplate is …
   a righteousness surrounding;
Where Christ placed his life,
   in between my sin.

God’s holiness is …
   then a protective hovering;
Where my flesh all at once,
   is covered and redeemed.

Where sanctified emotions …
   become a glorified self-worth;
Are identified, discovered,
   in this justified new birth.

Where Satan is defeated …
   when Christ breastplate does cover;
Where guilt, shame is gone,
   as lies fall forgotten, uncovered.

The accuser, and of destruction …
   the enemy will not recover;
Has been found, accusing a believer,
   then once for all discarded.

Banished, a startling no miss …
   defeated and dismissed;
Christ ~ breastplate remains secure,
   never ever to be displaced.

Ephesians 6:13-18 (The Message Remix/Eugene H. Peterson/The Bible In Contemporary Language) ~ Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

No soldier will go into battle without body armor because it protects his or her vital organs. This is also true for the Christ ~ follower. Ephesians six, verse fourteen instructs the believer to put on the full body armor of God’s righteousness. Why? Because it provides a powerful defense, solid evidence that we have been made right with God and that this righteousness has been given to us through Christ. Satan hates righteousness and will always seek to thwart righteous living. When the enemy, Satan, who is the accuser of believers tries to convince us that we are not really saved and that we continue to disappoint God, stand up to him because the righteousness we possess, righteousness promised through our faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, be confident; stand firm because Christ is our breastplate!
