On Our 35th!

July 21, 1979: Our Wedding Day

On our anniversary Dave and I spent the day at a Monastery located in Conyers, GA! Crazy, huh! Not really. It turned out to be a great place to go for a brief retreat. The day was spent in contemplative reflection, intentional prayer and delightful conversation.

As I walked, listened and talked with God, I felt a wrestling, the stirring, a deep groaning and my soul expressing, “I want more of YOUR heart LORD” and then hearing a whispering, His voice responding, assuring, “YOU have my Heart, my presence, continue to embrace and be more mindful not to quench the gift of my Holy Spirit within.

Walking, being drawn by the wrestling of leaves, the wind swirling, His voice speaking, PEACE, I stood amazed at God’s handiwork. Laying down upon the grass, I continued to bask in the whispering’s, His sweet presence in the wind, winds meshing leaf against leaf, a stillness, a quietness, refreshment, which only God gives.

Peacefulness, it swept across my body and soul, a warmth invading of the Spirit engulfing.

Breath of heaven, it revives, stills.

His Peace, it always stills life’s raging storms.

In the middle of it all, His Breath, a thundering began to roar. This brief intrusion, well, it quickly passed by while peace pushed, poured and surrounded. Silence, it permeated, it never left. Peace, it outweighed the loud!

I felt safe in this place of simplicity and solitude! Reminded again, safety, an authentic PEACE resides in YOU, Jesus!

It was a wonderful way to spend our 35th wedding anniversary, taking time to bask in God’s love, remembering “we love because He first loved us.” ~ 1 John 4:19.

“Oh, LORD, the king (we) rejoices in your strength. How great is his (our) joy in the victories you give. You have granted him (us) the desire of his (our) heart and have not withheld the request of his (our) lips. He (we) has asked you for life, and you gave it to him (us). – length of days, forever and ever. Through victories you gave, his (our) glory is great; you have bestowed on him (us) splendor and majesty. Surely you have granted him (us) eternal blessings and made him (us) glad with the joy of your presence.” ~ Psalm 21:1-6
