Overcame, Overcome

UNFORGIVENESS, BITTERNESS, REVENGE…
it’s all about chasing or being chased by something or someone that will eventually destroy!

Don’t be deceived,
but ever so vigilant,
on the alert,
take every thought captive,
soaking it in,
mediate upon,
apply the truth of God’s WORD.

Unforgiveness, bitterness and revenge … they reduce us to our worst self, our sinful infested self, what scripture calls ‘flesh’: flesh that rebells against God and places us on the same level with those individuals we claim to abhor.

Just like us, they too need the Spirit of the Living God, Christ to OVERCOME!

Honestly (and I assume you do too)… I get bogged down! I often struggle with emotions (melancholy in nature) not lining up with the heart of God, thoughts seeking to sabotage what I know to be truth!

Oh, I can easily be swept away into darkness, a cesspool of doubt, what I experience on this earthly journey not always matching up with seeing (yet, by faith believing) the unseen world of the Spirit of God impacting lives! Sometimes I see a glimmer! Most of the time, hesitating to admit it, I don’t! But that doesn’t mean I still don’t want to see it, and never later, not even one day or 10 years from today! I want to experience that change in that person or circumstance in the here, feel the joy and peace in the knowing, be emotionally set free from the burden, and not have to wait until passing from this world into eternity! My heart desperately longs for, wants to know if that loved one, a dear friend, stranger, a prodigal has returned to Jesus!

Realizing that God has a plan that far exceeds mine (thank goodness) and regardless of what that plan looks like and rather than remain bitter, angry or unforgiving for what is not seen, I am determined to remain faithful, trusting, someone who surrenders my will to His.

It will be seen!

God has provided the way to be forgiven. Because God has, we’ve been given the ability to forgive, though, it requires a choice. Through Christ, forgiveness is the paradigm-shifting solution for transformation. To forgive is a choice to put on the brakes, per se, and stop turning our anger inward. To place our foot on His accelerator, a surrendering to the Spirit of God, empowering us to move in the opposite direction… from darkness and bondage to experiential freedom and joy!

We are to be like the seagull, accelerating in flight, set free to OVERCOME!

The enemy, satan, is always on the prowl, is ravaging and attempting to tear us apart like a depraved, hungry lion. Seeking to eternally separate us from God, his sole purpose is to devastate, annihilate and devour our soul. Since his time is short, be prepared for an ugly onslaught, he will be persistent and in constant pursuit, his only purpose to steal and kill.

The good news, Jesus OVERCAME!

And in doing so, providing for us and to those who believe, the ability to OVERCOME!

John 16:25-33 – I Have Overcome The World
“I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”

His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Ephesians 4:25-32 – Unity In The Body Of Christ

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

John 10:7-11 – Jesus, The Good Shepherd
SoJesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Colossians 3:1-17 – Put On The New Self
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
