Be Careful What You Think

Be Careful What You Think

The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity. (2 Corinthians 10:3-6: The Message)

For though walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. (2 Corinthians 10:3-6: English Standard Version)

God has given us His power to demolish strongholds.

What are strongholds? The Apostle Paul did a good job explaining that to us. A stronghold is any arguments or pretension, speculation, imagination that “sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” It’s anything that exalts itself in our minds – “pretending” to be bigger or more powerful than God. Those arguments, thoughts that take higher priority in our minds and cause us to feel overpowered, controlled, mastered. Whether the stronghold is a superstitious belief, an addiction, wrong thoughts, and/or despair over a loss, etc. – it is something that consumes our emotional and mental strength strangling the abundant life we are supposed to be enjoying in Christ.

So, what are we to do? The GOOD NEWS, we are to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

We must acknowledge we are at WAR, and we need to know what weapons to use against the enemy!

The devil is unseen, therefore the weapons of the world won’t do, we must use a different set of weapons. In this warfare, our primary focus, to fully understand and embrace the battlefield is the MIND.

* First, to win this war against Satan, we need to take control of our thought life – “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

* Second, know without a shadow of doubt the devil’s chief target is the mind, because the most effective way to influence behaviour is to influence thinking.

* Third, Satan did that to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden – DOUBTING God’s truth; to Jesus in the temptation in the wilderness, TWISTING God’s truth.

Be mindful, our minds are the control centers of our entire beings. The enemy knows that there is nothing bigger or more powerful than God. That’s why everything that “exalts itself” in our though life is called a “pretension”, “speculation”, an “imagination”. Satan loves to play make-believe, mind games. He can only pretend – deceive us with half-truths and lies.

The GOOD NEWS… Satan has lost all power and authority over our lives in Christ. Colossians 2:15 says, “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
