We love because He (God) first loved us. – 1 John 4:19
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person ~ though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die ~ but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:6-8
We are incapable of love without first acknowledging that authentic love comes from and is God.
When we don’t, or can’t, acknowledge our feelings or accept something about ourselves, it’s most likely is a symptom that deep down we don’t love ourselves.
Don’t get stuck here but allow the deeper discovery… that you are incapable of truly loving yourself without fully understanding and embracing how much God really loves and accepts you as you are. And if you don’t love yourself as God loves and accepts you, you’ll never feel completely at peace with God, yourself, and the world around you. You’ll always find something to complain about, and the people in your life will always seem to be less than perfect because you think you’re less than perfect. And reality is… you are less than perfect apart from Christ.
Truth is the love of God as expressed and modeled in Christ makes it possible for us to love ourselves and others. Love never fails. And if you embrace HIM you will be made perfect… infusing a new narrative and perspective… empowered to love not only yourself but others well.
