Reflecting on words often spoken but not necessarily true, “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.”
If we could handle it, we certainly would. And if we think we can, we’re deceived into believing it’s all about us and our ability to do so. To be frankly honest, its in our sin nature to do all things independently from God. But for our good it was never intended to be that way, to live independently. Truth is God does give us MORE than we can handle. But, Jesus saves.
The life of Christ enables us to handle the MORE, therefore we overcome.
He does it so we’ll come to the end of ourselves, to fully recognize our need to place our trust and strength in Him.
He does it “to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9)
He does it so we’ll recognize that everything we possess, our adequacy ultimately comes directly from Him, “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” (Corinthians 3:5)
If you’re facing a trial beyond comprehension, some overwhelming adversary or adversity and wonder how God could possibly deliver and work it for good, be encouraged, God is granting you the joy of experiencing the reality and blessing of dependence. Read Judges 7, Romans 8, and 2 Corinthians 1.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
