Pondering today that as a Christ-follower I’m in a constant state of dependence, in need, therefore given special shoes to fit. These shoes possess the peace that comes only through and from the Good News in Christ Jesus. This peace enables to stand firm in the midst of a spiritual battle.

Because as Christ-followers I know we are fighting for that which is right and stand on the winning side, ever mindful of the war but also fight from victory.

We are presently engaged in a battle both with the inner peace that Christ has directly given to us, and the desire to produce that peace in the hearts of others. This is not something new. It began in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve, therefore we are to be on guard because the enemy (Satan) knows he is doomed, is angry, will use all deceptive tactics, counterfeit ways (to peace) to thwart any effort to those who have not heard, who seek to accept the gospel of peace and to those who present it.

Did you know that soldiers whether enlisted in the Roman army of the past or a military institution in the present have all worn special shoes. These shoes protected their feet without slowing them down allowing the soldier to march farther and faster, therefore giving an ability to dig in and hold their ground in battle. As a Christ-follower, we too have been given shoes though vastly different. We’ve been fit with a perfect, well-designed pair of shoes graced with a supernatural peace that strengthens with an ability to stand victoriously. Praise God, it is because and in these shoes we are able to stand faithful when (not if) faced with the daily battle that will occur when taking and presenting the Gospel of Peace!

Below is a poem I wrote in 2010 as a modern day psalm, reflective prayer and thought I’d share.

His Shoes

His Shoes…
   designed and for the taking,
Christ’ shoes,
they sing of a disciple in the making.
Be ever so focused, ever so true,
as temptation speaks of a possible forsake,
prepared, as it is the “Good News”…
bearer of peace when souls partake.

His Shoes…
   the Gospel, and of Peace,
Christ’ shoes,
has placed your feet secure in His care.
Pairs and of two feet,
because a war has been declared,
so walk and by faith,
   as one clever, so ready,
standing up, and being firm…
   not thinking as one unsteady.

His Shoes…
the Gospel, and of Good News,
Christ’ shoes,
   His breastplate fixed in place.
Surrounded and by angels,
within an army of majestic lace,
to see and be not afraid,
thus stepping through with unseen faith,
the glory, this overcoming raid…
to watch a sinner transform into a saint.

His Shoes…
   the Gospel, and of Assurance,
Christ’ shoes,
marches forth in songs of fighting praise.
He inhabits and to arm,
saints bathe, empowered, and through prayer,
hearts beating and of mercy,
   not even weary, taken unaware,
speaking forth as one is thirsty…
in boldness speak and to declare.

His Shoes…
   His Gospel, and of Grace,
Christ’ Shoes,
an unmerited favor comes only from Thee.
God, you invaded the human race,
indwelled an earthen vessel and in me,
blessed and to know Jesus,
divine feet placed in my shoes,
thus taking the Gospel of Salvation…
to those seeking, graving the “Good News”.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:14-25)

The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast-all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. He who has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints. (Revelation 12:5-10)
